Who is this course for?
This course is offered to the Disability Support workforce as additional training to support clients who have a current Epilepsy Management Plan.
Note: Introductory epilepsy training is included in the Disability Support Practice: Practical workshop which is part of the Disability Support Practitioner and Manager learning journeys.
What content does the course cover?
In this training session you will learn how to support a person living with epilepsy. This includes knowledge of:
- Current definitions of epilepsy and the effects of epilepsy on the body
- Recognising and responding to different types of seizures
- Supporting people with epilepsy management plans including avoiding known triggers, lifestyle support, and identifying and minimising the risks associated with epilepsy
- Medications as a treatment option
- Providing epilepsy first aid.
Does the course have prerequisites or specific requirements?
The following must be completed before attending:
- Medication practice assessment and pre-requisite training.
