This course is provided as optional learning for Disability Support Practitioners and Managers supporting clients living with epilepsy who have a current Epilepsy Management Plan. Introductory Epilepsy training is included in the Disability Practice Support Workshop and this Epilepsy Management course is for staff who require additional training.
What content does the course cover?
This virtual course will be delivered via Zoom and provides learners with the knowledge and skills required to support a person living with epilepsy. This includes knowledge of:
- Current definitions of epilepsy
- The effects of epilepsy on the body
- Recognising and responding to distinct types of seizures
- Supporting people with epilepsy management plans including:
- Avoiding known triggers
- Medications as a treatment option
- Lifestyle support
- Epilepsy first aid
- identifying and minimising the risks associated with epilepsy
Does the program have any prerequisites?
Learners enrolled in this course must have completed the Disability Support Practice Workshop and have a current Medication Practice Assessment.
