This course is designed to be presented as a blended course with the Positive Approaches to Behaviour support online course as a prerequisite. The online course provides three modules which need to be completed prior to attending the face to face workshop.

Why choose this course?

This course is based on the belief that the strategies used to provide good behaviour support are also fundamental in providing good support to anyone. 
This course is for employees who support individuals with disabilities some of whom may display behaviours of concern. The course is compulsory for disability support practitioners, youth coaches, accommodation and respite managers and Lifestyle support managers, coordinators, and team leaders.  
You will be provided with information about positive approaches to client support and how these reduce the occurrence of behaviours of concern. You will have the opportunity to reflect on current practices and consider how to improve your way of working, to deliver a quality service, make a difference and deliver great outcomes for the people you support. This course has a significant focus on Active Support strategies.

Note:  This course replaces and is equivalent to the combination of earlier courses: Positive approaches to behaviour support and Person centred active support.  If you have completed both these earlier courses, you are not required to complete this course.

What content does the program cover?

The content of this course will enable participants to:

  • Demonstrate the use of positive support strategies that improve outcomes for people who exhibit behaviours of concern
  • Use person centred principles to identify the best approach to support a person to improve quality of life
  • Recognise Active Support strategies and reflect on own work practices
  • Implement creative solutions whilst working with people to enable them to engage in an activity 
  • Implement creative solutions with a person with a disability to reduce the need to use a behaviour of concern.

Does the program have any prerequisites?

The following online learning course must be completed prior to taking part in the Positive Approaches to Client Support face to face workshop:

  • Positive approaches to behaviour support (three modules) – Online

This online course will be made available in the Online Learning System. and must be completed at least 1 business day prior to the workshop.
