Who is this course for?
This two-day course is mandatory training for the Disability Support workforce.
If this course is relevant to your role, but not mandatory, please discuss with and get approval from your manager.
What content does the course cover?
Day 1
- Person Centred Active Support
- Positive Approaches to Behaviour Support
During this day you will learn the importance of implementing positive strategies such as active support for all people you support to improve quality of life. You will learn various simple strategies that you can use in your day-to-day work and how a person-centred approach to supporting a person will reduce the likelihood of them using a behaviour of concern to get their needs met.
Day 2
- Preventing and Responding to Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation
During this day you will explore the specific reasons why people with disabilities are more vulnerable to abuse and the strategies you can use to reduce this vulnerability. You will also learn what your legal and ethical responsibilities are when supporting people with disabilities including your reporting obligations.

New employees will complete this training in week 4 of your employment.
