Who is this course for?
This is mandatory training for disability support managers and is completed annually as part of the refresher program. For more detail see your Learning Journey.

What content does the course cover?
The purpose of this annual refresher is to ensure you are proficient in and have the current skills and knowledge to complete manual handling practice assessments with your team. This will ensure your team has the skills to provide safe, effective and high-quality manual handling supports for clients.
This training session will be run by one of our Occupational therapists or Physiotherapists who will:
- Refresh and update knowledge and key points covered in the falls and manual handling practise alert
- Demonstrate and provide opportunities to practise key manual handling techniques including standing transfers, hoist transfers and supporting a client to move in bed
- Observe and assess you completing the manual handling practise assessment to demonstrate proficiency
Does the course have prerequisites or specific requirements?
The following must be completed before attending:
- Disability Support Workshop 1 (manual handling face to face training)
- Please bring 1 or 2 examples of a client manual handling plan (transfer procedure) from your site or service to the training session
- The focus month for the refresher topic Falls and Manual Handling is September when you will complete assessments with your staff.
