This course aims to provide you with knowledge of the theory and practical skills required to complete an assessment for provision of seating and postural supports.

For Cerebral Palsy Alliance Employees

  • At Cerebral Palsy Alliance this learning activity is compulsory for all occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
  • Prerequisites– Seating and positioning online (Part 1 theory) must to be completed in the first 6 months of employment and before attendance at the practical workshop.
    Seating and positioning workshop (Part 2 practice) must be completed during 6-12 months of employment.
  • Cerebral Palsy Alliance employees are exempt from the course fee.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What content does the program cover?

The online learning component of this course aims to provide participants with the theoretical basis for seating and positioning intervention.
The workshop component of this course aims to provide participants with a practical approach to seating and positioning assessment and intervention by offering opportunities to refine clinical reasoning and prescription skills. This is accomplished through a hands-on workshop assisted by volunteers who have physical disabilities and is facilitated by specialist seating consultants.

Does the course have any prerequisites?

The online learning component of the course must be completed prior to attending the workshop and we recommend allowing 6 hours for this module.  The module will be made available to participants approx. 4 weeks prior to the workshop.

In order to benefit most from participating in this course, it is recommended that your clinical caseload includes clients requiring seating intervention and that you have some degree of physical assessment experience.

Please wear comfortable clothing (preferably shorts or pants) and closed-toe shoes as you may be required to enter a workshop.

Course completion requires:

The online module includes formal assessment.

The practical workshop includes both formal and informal assessment, which involves group discussions, activities and conducting practical mat evaluation assessments.
