The prevalence of abuse, assault and risk of harm is well documented in relation to vulnerable people and within the human services sector. It is important that all staff are aware of the issues, indicators and what to do if they suspect a person they support is subject to abuse, assault or risk of harm.

What content does the program cover?

This one day course on prevention and response to abuse and assault and risk of harm equips participants to have an awareness of the issues and to understand their responsibilities and organisational procedures. Depending on your client group, participants will have the opportunity to discuss:

  • the differences in relation to children, young people and adults.
  • attitudes, myths and facts associated with abuse, assault and risk of harm.
  • indicators of abuse.
  • the power of the grooming process and offender behaviours.
  • common indicators of abuse, assault and risk of harm pertaining to alleged victims and perpetrators.
  • phases of disclosure.
  • how to support alleged victims
  • the role of government agencies.
  • Individual responsibilities in relation to legislative requirements and organisational policy.
  • procedures in relation to disclosure of abuse, assault or risk of harm of people with disability.

Does the program have any prerequisites?

Depending on the mode of delivery chosen there may be an online learning course to complete prior to attending preventing and responding to abuse, assault and risk of harm face to face training.

Duration: The chosen mode of delivery will dictate the length and timing of the course.
