Enteral (Tube) Feeding

Who is this course for? 

This is mandatory training for the Disability Support workforce.

What content does the course cover?  

In this training session you will learn how to safely assist clients with prescribed nutrition and medications delivered via a gastrostomy and/or jejunostomy.  
This includes:

  • The basic anatomy and physiology of the digestive system
  • Enteral nutrition, its rationale, and goals
  • Your role and responsibilities when supporting clients with enteral (tube) nutrition and feeding
  • Common feeding tubes and delivery methods
  • Solving potential enteral (tube) feeding problems.

Does the course have prerequisites or specific requirements? 

The following must be completed before attending:

  • Assist with medication - online
  • Infection prevention and control - online
  • Disability support workshop 1

Read CPA’s:

  • Medication policy
  • Medication practice guide
  • Infection prevention and control policy
  • Infection prevention and control guidelines
  • Promoting client heath policy
  • Promoting client health guidelines.

After completing this course:

  • If you are Disability Support Practitioner, complete the Tube Feeding Skill Builder with your manager and then register for the Enteral (tube) Feeding First Practice Assessment with a CPA Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) via the CPA course registration page.
  • If you are a Disability Support Manager, please register to attend the Enteral (Tube) Feeding First Practice Assessment with a CPA Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) via the CPA course registration page
