This virtual course is a compulsory induction activity for all disability support practitioners and managers. It is part of a blended training program with prerequisite online learning and pre-reading.  

What content does the program cover? 

This virtual theory session covers learning relevant to disability support roles: 

Medication  

  • Explain why taking medication is important to client’s health  
  • Explain the legal framework that supports medication safety  
  • Explain what medications are  
  • Explain how to safely assist clients with their medications  
  • Explain the different effects of medication to clients  
  • Identify medication incidents  
  • Explain the management of common medication incidents 

Epilepsy and Emergency First Aid 

  • Explain epilepsy and seizures  
  • Explain how to support clients living with epilepsy  
  • Explain how to provide first aid for common types of seizures   
  • Explain the basics of Midazolam 

It supports the learning from the online course Assist with medication

Does the program have any prerequisites? 

The Assist with Medication online learning course must be completed at least 1 business day prior to attending this course.  This course can be accessed via the Online Learning System

Employees must also have read the CPA Medication and Epilepsy policies available on the HUB in the policy library. 
This course is a prerequisite to other client health care courses. 

Course completion requires: 

Completion of the online learning module, pre reading of relevant CPA policies and participation in this virtual theory session.
