Splinting and casting for people with cerebral palsy

Who is this course for? 

This is mandatory training for Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Allied Health Assistants with a current caseload.

What content does the course cover?  

In this training session you will learn upper and lower limb splinting and casting for clients with neurological disabilities.
This includes:

  • Conducting evidence-based upper and lower limb assessment prior to splinting and casting
  • Using the appropriate evidence-based interventions
  • Applying clinical reasoning when selecting an appropriate cast and/or splint
  • Choosing the appropriate splint or cast material and how to use it
  • Fabricating a range of upper limb and lower limb splints and casts.

Does the course have prerequisites or specific requirements? 

The following must be completed before attending:

  • Splinting and casting - online

 Note

  • You need a current caseload to attend
  • AHAs and CSCs are not required to complete the online learning component.
  • Registrations for this course close 6-weeks prior to session.
  • You will be sent a list of individual splinting and casting supplies which you must bring from your site for the course.  
  • Contact your clinical educator and nominated supplies coordinator at least 6 weeks prior to gather supplies.
